Introduction
IT project management is the process of planning, organising and taking responsibility for the completion of an organisation's specific IT goals. It covers a wide range of areas, such as software development, hardware installation, network upgrades, cloud computing and other IT services.
These five process groups comprise the project management life cycle, which are common to all projects. The specific phases within a project, however, are unique to each project:
- Initiation – the project end goal is identified, and the project manager is appointed.
- Planning - the required steps are planned by the project manager and team.
- Execution - the project deliverables are created by the project team.
- Monitoring and controlling - the project manager controls the work, time, cost, risk etc.
- Closing - The project is closed and transferred to the organisation.
