5-Step Cyber Health Check

Introduction

Our 5-Step 5-Step Cyber Health Check service has been custom designed to help organisations ensure that their IT systems are secure against a cyber threat and that their data protection measures comply with the requirements of GDPR. The service is completed with a Cyber Essentials certification and offers free cyber insurance to cover your organisation is attacked or suffers a data breach.

Step 1 - User Device Checks

A selection of devices are checked to ensure they have working anti-virus & anti-malware software, secured user accounts and supported and patched operating systems.

Step 2 - Vulnerability Scans

Your devices are checked for known vulnerabilities using industry standards, on various devices such as workstations, firewalls & networking devices, printers and VoIP telephones. Please see our Vulnerability Scan page for more details.

Step 3 - Firewall Review

Your internet firewall is checked to ensure it is secure, that any rules or external services are configured correctly, and that the firewall is still supported with firmware by the vendor.

Step 4 - Policy Reviews

Your cyber related policies will be reviewed for compliance (password policy, security policy, backup policy, privacy policy), and some policy templates are supplied for you to use for free.

Step 5 - Cyber Certificate

Finally, the NCSC supported Cyber Essentials certification is included, together with free cyber insurance to cover your organisation if it suffers a cyber attach or data breach. Cyber Essentials is a UK Government supported scheme, run by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) to help organisations prepare and protect themselves against possible cyber attacks. The Cyber Essentials Plus scheme is aimed towards organisations who require the additional assurance that their certification is verified, or are required to achieve this level of certification in order to participate in public bodies/government tenders. Please see our Cyber Essentials page for more details.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How long does the process take? The process can be done in as little as a day, but realistically it will take about 2-3 days (depending on what you have in place already and if any work is required in order to pass the certification.
  • Is the work to rectify any issues included? No, you must use your current IT staff or support company to conduct this work. We will advise what needs to be done, but cannot include this work in the package.
  • What does the Cyber Essentials process involve? The Cyber Essentials basic scheme involves the completion of a self-assessment. We have prepared a guide to help you here. If you pass, then you will be presented with a certificate. If you fail, then we can help you get things in place to re-submit.

The Cyber Essentials Plus scheme also involves the completion of the self-assessment (and a successful pass). Following this, we will visit your organisation to conduct a vulnerability scan and verify your assessment.
  • How long do the certifications last? The certifications should be renewed annually in order to be listed on the NCSC’s website.
  • How much does it cost if we fail?If you fail the basic certification, then we do not charge for re-submitting once.

If you fail the plus certification, then we do not charge to redo the external vulnerability scan or for re-submitting. However, we may charge for revisiting your site to redo the internal vulnerability scan.
  • Do you provide additional technical help?Yes, we can provide technical support to help you get things in place prior to the self-assessment. Please see our bolt-ons section for more details.
  • Do I need the plus certification? The plus certification lets you demonstrate to customers that you take the security of your systems seriously. It may also be required if you hold sensitive data or provide services to local authorities or the government.
  • What is the scanning device? The scanning appliance is a small device that sits on your network, and quietly scans your network and devices for vulnerabilities that could be the target of attackers.

The appliance uses minimal electricity and does not affect your network in any way.
